Mai Shiranui first made her 3D fighting game appearance in the teaser trailer for her DLC in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round on August 2016 during the Dead or Alive Festival 2016. Her movesets from King of Fighters carries over to Dead or Alive and has been praised by many fighting gamers.

But ever since Dead or Alive 6 was released in March 2019, that's when they added Mai Shiranui back as a guest fighter once again with the addition of Kula Diamond. Prior to Mai's DLC added to Dead or Alive 6, her DLC in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round along with the King of Fighters Mashup Costume Set were both completely removed.

This removal of Mai Shiranui has caused an outcry among many players who still haven't owned her in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, some were more than likely upset that she was never kept within the game much like how they still have the Virtua Fighters (Akira Yuki, Pai Chan, Sarah Bryant, Jacky Bryant) in their Character Roster. We demand Team NINJA, Koei Tecmo and SNK to please add Mai Shiranui back into Dead or Alive 5: Last Round for good.
