Add Duo-Spike: A Permanent 2v2 Spike Mode to VALORANT
Das Problem
We ask Riot Games to add Duo Spike: a permanent or Act-long test queue for a 2v2 Spike mode in VALORANT.
The idea is simple: 2v2, one active Spike site, shorter matches, duo matchmaking, plant/defuse gameplay, and a separate 2v2 rank or MMR.
This is not asking for Skirmish to be removed. Skirmish proved that small-team VALORANT can be fun, but it is not the tactical duo mode many players are looking for. Duel-focused modes train aim and mechanics. Duo Spike would train the parts that make VALORANT special: trading, retakes, utility, clutch decisions, site control, and playing around the Spike.
Many players often have exactly one friend online. Standard Competitive can be too long or too random-heavy for a quick session. Deathmatch is useful, but it is not objective-based. Swiftplay is shorter, but still 5v5. Duo Spike would give players a focused way to play real tactical VALORANT when they want a lower-commitment competitive experience with one teammate.
A low-risk version could start as an Act-long test:
- 2v2 matchmaking
- one active site per map
- three compact map variants
- shorter first-to-7 or first-to-9 matches
- separate MMR/rank
- Riot-tuned economy and utility rules
This would not replace 5v5 Competitive. It would create a separate home for duo players, warm-up sessions, clutch practice, and players who want short but serious objective-based matches.
Riot has already experimented with small-team competitive experiences through Skirmish: Ascension. Duo Spike would be the natural tactical next step.
If you want this mode, sign the petition and send it to your duo!
