On the 19th, Edgewood borough council voted for their half of a traffic study regarding a possible crosswalk at Braddock & Sanders! Yay! I think it was your support for this petition that prompted them to consider and approve the study. If Swissvale also approves the $13,500 study, and the results recommend a crosswalk, then we’ll probably get one, otherwise not. So we’re not done yet. How you can help: 1. Background on council attitudes: The boroughs’ current plans for no crosswalk are based on a 2014 Road Safety Audit (RSA) of Braddock Ave. It didn’t recommend a crosswalk at Sanders in part because of the many car crashes there. Some council members suspect that a new traffic study of the Sanders intersection would be redundant with the RSA. They may be unaware that an RSA is a quick assessment, while a traffic study is more careful, involving traffic flow measurement.
