The number of e-mails we have received from tenants across the city of Burnaby has been overwhelming, with many of whom are facing the same issue regarding smoking in their buildings and wondering how exactly they would go about document it. The best thing you can do is take photographic and video evidence and forward it to the management of your building. If it is not addressed, the next steps would be to go to the Residential Tenancy Branch (if you are in British Columbia) and file for a Dispute Resolution which you can read more about here. If your health is impacted by secondhand smoke coming from neighbours, you could also file with small claims court, but that would take more time, effort and money. You could also contact your local MLA and the Ministry of Health.
