The last petition update, Communities Fight Back Against the Cruise Lines, discussed why communities around the world are fighting to stop the cruise industry. Here are some comments from people helping to stop Princess Cruises here in Yorktown.

  • What an insane proposal for such a historic beautiful town! and I can't begin to imagine the effects it would have on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. -- Susan W
  • I want to preserve the American colonial historic District that Yorktown is and protect the environment & River habitat! -- Teri H
  • Cruise ships bring pollution to the community's air and water and are operated by companies incorporated in Panama, Bermuda and Liberia which register their ships in places like the Bahamas in order to avoid all U.S. income taxes, U.S. wage & labor laws and U.S. occupational health & safety regulations. -- Jim W
  • Let’s keep it clean people!! Princess does NOT need this stop. We DO need our history kept in the most pristine condition possible! -- Peter J
  • All around the world, these cruise ships are ruining the quality of life for locals and those who tread lightly instead of flocking like seagulls. Get them out of here!!! -- Deflin S
  • I've just moved to the Yorktown area for this history and beauty and I'd really like for it not to be ruined by a cruise stop filled with hundreds of tourists coming into a small historical community. -- David D
  • I know that the sight of huge cruise ships will only mar the sanctity of this deeply historical site and diminish the solemnity of our visits. -- Melvin K
  • These cruise ships will negatively change this town and surrounding areas. Please preserve the historic Yorktown we love!  -- Margo W
  • That ship is way too big for this tiny little river that type of ship will most certainly endanger the ecosystem and this freshwater from foreign bacteria and the ocean in this freshwater ecosystem. -- Scott E
  • 900 foot cruise ships are bizarre and completely unacceptable. Meanwhile Yorktown is an historic American jewel. -- Jon A
  • I grew up in Yorktown and my sister and Mother still live there. This tiny, historic town cannot in any way, handle the multitude of people getting off ships of this size. It is an absolutely ludicrous proposal. The residents of this town DO NOT WANT a huge cruise ship carrying 1000's of passages in our quaint little town. Not to mention the effects it will have on our waters and eco-system. The Chesapeake Bay Act and the Army Corps of Engineers should put a halt on this ludicrous proposal immediately. I will be contacting my state and local representatives to put a stop to Princess Cruises. -- Beve H
  • If this goes ‘well’ it could quickly become a regular thing. These waters supply food and livelihood for much of our community. One waste spill, intentional or accidental could wipe that out. -- Christine C
  • These enormous cruise ships should not be docking at Yorktown. The potential environmental damage, even if they do not illegally dump (as Princess and Carnival have been found guilty of in the recent past) could be disastrous! Why weren't the citizens of Yorktown consulted on this enormous decision with possible catastrophic effects? -- Leisa M
