Since the COVID Pandemic, Free Laundry Access has grown far beyond what we first imagined. What began as a simple idea, that access to clean clothing is a basic human need, has turned into a national program supporting hundreds of families and individuals across Canada who are facing financial hardship, housing insecurity, or crisis.
That growth would not have been possible without meaningful corporate partnership, and Sunlight Canada has provided the visionary leadership to help us reach more people in need.
As we look ahead, we want to share an important update with transparency and optimism.
Our title sponsor, Sunlight Canada, has informed us that due to changing market forces they will no longer be able to continue their financial support beyond March of this year. While this marks the end of a chapter, it also gives us an opportunity to pause and express our deep and sincere gratitude for all they have helped us achieve.
Sunlight Canada believed in our program when it was still proving itself. Their support helped us expand into new communities, partner with laundromat operators across the country, and demonstrate that something as simple as free access to laundry can restore dignity, confidence, and participation in everyday life. We are truly grateful for the role they played in helping Free Laundry Access become what it is today.
Like many organizations, we are navigating an ever-changing funding landscape. Corporate priorities shift, budgets tighten, and causes must continually re-earn attention. We respect that reality and we remain incredibly proud of the impact this program continues to deliver.
With more than 6,700 people having signed our petition in support of no-cost laundry as a basic human need, it’s clear that this program matters, to individuals, families, and communities across Canada. Demand continues to grow, and in many places, Free Laundry Access is now a relied-upon support, not a temporary initiative.
As we move through this transition, we are quietly and thoughtfully working to ensure that this program can continue without interruption.
If you know or are connected to an organization, brand, individual, or decision maker, particularly within laundry, detergent, appliance, manufacturing, utilities, real estate, or corporate community-impact spaces, who values dignity, community, and practical impact and who may be open to supporting or stewarding this work, an introduction could make all the difference. Sometimes the future of a program like this is shaped not by one large decision, but by a few timely conversations.
Our hope is simple: that Free Laundry Access can remain available to the people who depend on it today and grow responsibly to meet the needs we know are coming tomorrow.
To Sunlight Canada, thank you for helping us prove that this model works, that compassion can scale, and that small acts like clean clothes can make a profound difference.
To everyone who has supported, shared, signed, or believed in Free Laundry Access, we’re still here, we’re still growing, and with the right partners, our best work is still ahead.
With gratitude,
The Free Laundry Access Team
