Hey, all. I recently found out today that US-based Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated has announced that the Saudi Food and Drug Authority(SFDA) has granted Marketing Authorisation for CASGEVY, a CRISPR/Cas9 gene-edited therapy for the treatment of sickle-cell disease and beta-thalassemia.
CASGEVY is approved for the treatment of people 12 years of age and older ∑with SCD or TDT. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has among the highest prevalence rates of the SCD and TDT in the world with thousands of patients living with these genetics blood disorders.
I am amazed and hopeful that this kind of technology will eventually come to my country and be approved for patients with SCD and TDT.
