Abolish the Monarchy. Establish a Democratic Republic.

The British monarchy is not a harmless tourist attraction or “tradition.” It is an unelected, hereditary institution that still holds real constitutional power, vast wealth extracted from the public, and a privileged status that places one family above the law and above the people.

While ordinary people struggle with the cost of living, housing, and public services, the Crown retains immense land holdings, tax privileges, and a Sovereign Grant funded by taxpayers. The institution has spent centuries protecting its own interests, shielding scandals, and resisting accountability. Recent years have only made this clearer: secrecy around finances, repeated controversies involving senior royals, and a system that still treats birthright as more important than democratic consent.

No one should rule by accident of birth in the 21st century. A modern democracy does not need a monarch as head of state. It needs a president or similar office chosen by and accountable to the people. The continued existence of the monarchy entrenches inequality, reinforces deference, and blocks genuine democratic reform.
