As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am deeply concerned about the ongoing practice of conversion therapy. This harmful and unethical practice aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity through psychological or spiritual interventions, and it has been proven not only ineffective but also extremely damaging.

Conversion therapy can lead to severe emotional, psychological, and physical distress. According to a survey by The Trevor Project, 42% of LGBTQ+ youth who undergo conversion therapy report attempting suicide. Furthermore, the American Psychological Association, along with numerous other health organizations, has condemned the use of conversion therapy, affirming that it is based on pseudoscientific claims and can lead to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and self-harm.

Despite the overwhelming evidence of its detriments, conversion therapy remains legal in many countries and states, leaving countless vulnerable individuals at risk. This situation is unacceptable, and it's critical that we advocate for change.

We call on government officials at all levels to take action and enact laws that prohibit this abusive practice. Our leaders must prioritize mental health and human rights by ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Ending conversion therapy is not just about protecting individuals; it is an essential step towards achieving equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community. Let us champion love and authenticity over fear and intolerance.
