Response from (the office of) Irish President Catherine Connolly, and my response to it.

On about 21 July 2026, I received a response from the Office of the President of Ireland. Very high quality envelope and paper. Very low quality, milquetoast response. I should probably feel honored for having gotten a response at all. How many people of Ireland have received correspondence from the President? But the underlying problem remains.

Maybe there was genuine confusion about what I was asking her to do, like reverse a judgement. But that's not why I mailed her. I was honestly still in a state of shock when I wrote the letter. Rereading it, I can feel that shock but my prose at least appears sane and makes sense, so I'm not sure what the problem was. My second letter to the President, I went into very precise detail when reiterating my request to her. And also illustrating why I think it is appropriate to make such a request from her.

Many sources say that the President of Ireland has been reduced to a ceremonial role, but she does hold real power (at least according to the Irish Constitution, which is apparently vocational reading within the Irish legal system), so she does need to act according to her station and its responsibilities. Right?

What do you think?
