We are just back from our first journey to Brighton to visit Claire. Visiting is supposed to be 2 hours a week - not bad for a 10 hour return journey !!!!! - but they allowed us 2 visits this week. Nicola and Andrew finally had a chance to see her, after she was sent there without any of us having a chance to say goodbye last Friday, but it is so hard sitting in a room for 2 hours, with a nurse there the whole time, plus a social worker yesterday as Andrew is only 15. She isn't allowed her IPAD - policy, and isn't allowed out as yet as her clinician is on holiday until next week. To us, that's a step backwards already as she was out every day with us. The staff seem fine there, but it's not an autism specific hospital, this isn't helping Claire, who just keeps asking when she can come home. This Saturday, she was supposed to be coming to see the Swans v Villarreal with us, but unfortunately now, this is the first family outing that will have to be cancelled - so much for family life, and her rights, and things she enjoys - friends, family, community, the Swans. It seems so unfair, considering how much she was home with us. Now she has nothing, but our love, and the hope that she will ONE DAY have the chance to come home to us again. At 20 years old, it is so cruel and upsetting.
