Revenge was recently cancelled by ABC Studios, due to poor ratings. Despite this, the show was an international success, especially in its first season, with an original premise and a brilliant cast. Because of this, it seems that the only justifiable reason for cancellation are the ratings. The main cast are all currently under contract, presumably willing to come back and ABC president Paul Lee called the show “A critical brand”, adding “There is a way to reinvent the show” if it returned.

Revenge is a veteran show, being on the air for four years with four seasons that have 22 episodes each, with the fourth season having an extra episode. Not only that, it has spawned countless merchandise, including a graphic novel and a spin-off book. To renew it would have numerous advantages.

The first being that if it received a fifth season, with the usual 22 episodes, the show would reach more than 100 episodes, an impressive accomplishment with any show and only adding to its value.

The second being the continuation of the well-loved character’s stories, which would delight fans, as well as the cast.

The final being the opportunity to turn the show’s current slump around, bringing it back to its roots when it was most successful and, therefore, raising the ratings and making Revenge a success again.

It would seem such a waste of potential and creativity to axe the show simply because of the ratings, when everything else is adequate.
