Bring Swaraj back into AAP
Bring Swaraj back into AAP
The Issue
The decision on 4th March 2015 by AAP's PAC to remove two members, Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, smacks of arbitrariness and lack of transparency. Neither the charges against them were clear, nor were they given sufficient time to defend themselves. This was preceded by several leaks, allegations, and counter-allegations, none of which have been verified or denied. In such a scenario, AAP is seen as no different from other authoritarian parties. Having already lost its moral high ground of transparency and accountability, there is only one way forward for the party.
The decision making bodies of the party, the National Executive and the Political Affairs Committee, need to be reconstituted as soon as possible, in a democratic and transparent way. This should be done in a manner which gives primacy to the views of thousands of aam aadmi and aurat who have worked selflessly for the party as volunteers. Thus a mechanism needs to be evolved by the present leadership to first identify the volunteers and then let those volunteers elect the new PAC and NE. In addition, all the decisions and minutes of the NE meetings should be made public. This is the only way AAP can reclaim the ideal of "Swaraj".
