Yesterday was such a powerful day. I sat in the gallery at the House of Representatives as the motion to support a Royal Commission passed.
We are so close to getting a Royal Commission. Yesterday felt like the closest we've ever been. Today, will you please click here to email the Prime Minister and ask him to finally call a Royal Commission into Veterans Suicide?
Yesterday, MP Phillip Thompson spoke from the heart. He delivered his speech to me, and to all of us who've lost a brave love one to this crisis.
“I’m sorry for what you’ve had to go through, the loss of your son,” he said. “I’m sorry for every mother that has had to bury their son. Every family member who had to bury a loved one. The mates who are beside themselves.”
“The black hole in my heart for my 10 mates who have died is nowhere near to the pain that you must have been enduring this whole time...I don't want to bury more people."
Now, the Lower and Upper Houses both agree - we need a Royal Commission.
It's time for the Prime Minister to do the right thing and call one.
Please, now is our best chance to make this happen. This petition is now over 400,000 signatures. Together, we can do this.
Julie-Ann Finney, proud mother of Dave Stafford Finney.
