The Issue

Every day, people wait.

Students wait for their rides home. Workers wait for transportation after work. Parents wait with their children. Senior citizens and other commuters wait along busy roads for a jeepney, bus, taxi, or other means of transportation.

But in some areas of our community, there are limited places where people can wait comfortably while doing so.

When there is no adequate shelter, commuters may be left standing under direct sunlight or exposed to rain while waiting for transportation. For something as ordinary as waiting, having a shaded and properly designed public space can make a meaningful difference.

What We Are Asking For

We are calling on local authorities and relevant community planners to consider establishing or improving public waiting shelters in areas where people frequently wait for transportation.

These shelters could include:

  1. ☂️ Roofing or shade to provide protection from sun and rain;
  2. 🪑 Seating for people waiting for transportation;
  3. 🚶 Accessible spaces that do not obstruct sidewalks or pedestrian movement;
  4. 🗑️ Proper maintenance and cleanliness; and
  5. 📍 Strategic placement in areas with significant pedestrian and transportation activity.
    We are not asking for extravagant structures. We are asking for practical public spaces designed around a simple reality: people need somewhere to wait.

Why This Matters

Public infrastructure is not only about roads and transportation. It is also about the spaces people use before, after, and between their journeys.

A well-placed waiting shelter can provide a more comfortable environment for commuters and pedestrians while also helping organize areas where people regularly gather for transportation.

This can benefit different members of the community, including students, workers, parents, senior citizens, and other commuters.

By signing this petition, you are supporting the call for local authorities and community planners to consider where additional public waiting shelters may be needed and how these spaces can be made more accessible and useful to the people who depend on public transportation.

A short wait should not require someone to stand without shade or shelter when a practical public solution is possible.

Our Request

We respectfully ask the appropriate local authorities to:

Identify areas where public waiting shelters are needed and consider providing safe, shaded, accessible, and properly maintained waiting spaces for commuters and pedestrians.

Please sign and share this petition to support the call for more practical public waiting spaces in our community.

Everyone deserves a place to wait.
