Neighbors for Los Osos - Turning Vacation Rental Guidelines Into Ordinance
The Planning Commission will hear Public Comments regarding the Los Osos Community Plan and the Los Osos Vacation Rental Guidelines July 9, 2020 starting at 9am via Zoom
We are asking Los Osos residents to please write letters and make live call-in comments via Zoom for the Planning Commissioners meeting. Our collective voice must be heard. Without a large letter and public comment attendance, Los Osos could end up with county prescribed VR guidelines that might not be in our best interest, and we've seen how that worked out for Cayucos. Yes, we are at the political part of turning guidelines into ordinance. Make your comments personal. Ask them to approve the Los Osos Vacation Rental Guidelines. Describe how important our guidelines are for the preservation of community. Let them know it's critical to have these regulations in place for maintaining housing stock. Do we need housing stock or hotels in homes? As Bruce Gibson said, "Letters and public comment are the most important when expressing clearly the will of the community."

LOCAC approved the vacation rental guidelines for Los Osos in June 2018 after 11 months of committee and community input. These guidelines were then sent to the SLO County Planning Department to be attached to the Los Osos Community Plan. The Planning Department has made their own recommendations. Only two items of the extensive guidelines were included. One is density. The other is that VRs are restricted to existing single-family dwellings. We are asking that our Los Osos Vacation Rental Guidelines be adopted. We must be persuasive that these are more appropriate and better reflect the will of our community than the Planning Department's recommendations.
The guidelines for Los Osos will go through three hearings: Planning Commissioners, Board of Supervisors, and the Coastal Commission in order to be discussed and voted upon at each stage, and then finalized into ordinance.
