SAY NO to madness of 220 HOUSES on BRITFORD FIELD which will flood existing homes!

PERSIMMON HOMES HAVE NOW APPLIED FOR PLANNING PERMISSION.
WE MUST OBJECT (AGAIN!).

Please note this is a separate and different objection to those made against these plans as part of the Local Plan.

PLEASE ACT BEFORE 17 JUNE.
IT IS EXTREMELY QUICK AND EASY TO OBJECT (LINK AT THE BOTTOM)

We must stand together to object on the grounds of:

FLOODING – BRITFORD VILLAGE ALREADY FLOODS
The council is currently spending millions on flood prevention in our city centre – a place which lies at the confluence of five rivers. The CEO of the Environment Agency had to visit the Britford floods in 2024. The village is currently applying for planning permission for their own flood defences.

RETENTION OF RURAL IDENTITY – THE FIELD IS THE FINAL BUFFER BETWEEN CITY AND VILLAGE
This field adjoins Britford village - a Conservation Area with a conservation management plan; an Area of Archaeological Potential around an Anglo-Saxon settlement, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest – the water meadows. The village and its environs are uniquely preserved and this development will destroy the character of the landscape.

TRAFFIC – THE HARNHAM GYRATORY!
We have all sat in solid traffic at the gyratory. The new houses on the Netherhampton and Coombe Roads will only make this situation worse. Harnham simply cannot take any further pressure on its roads.

PRESERVATION OF A GREEN CORRIDOR
The footpath at the end of the Britford Lane and the route around Britford Village are widely enjoyed for recreational purposes. Persimmon Homes plans to widen and tarmac this path, allowing access from the housing development.

It is also worth noting that some of the buildings planned are 3 storeys high and that none of them is ‘affordable housing’ to buy.

Please ACT NOW!!   -   before Tuesday 17th JUNE
