Petition updateA Fair Go for Permanent Residency in Australia🚨 Petition Update: Left in Limbo by Another Policy Change 🚨

First of all, thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this petition. Your support means everything to me and to countless others facing similar struggles.

I have always followed the correct visa pathways, done everything by the book, and complied with every immigration requirement. Yet, once again, I find myself in an impossible position—left without work rights, trapped by shifting policies, and no closer to permanent residency.

The Latest Setback
When visa changes were introduced in December 2024, I finally saw a real chance at applying for PR. After months of job hunting, I secured an employer willing to sponsor me for a 186 Direct Entry visa. However, due to grey areas in the rules, I was left with only two options to continue working while we prepared my PR application:

1️⃣ My new employer could take over my 482 visa nomination at a cost of $4,000, but with unpredictable processing delays that would leave me out of work.

2️⃣ I could apply for a third Working Holiday Visa (WHV), allowing me to continue working and financially supporting myself while we submitted my 186 PR application.

After consulting my immigration agent, I applied for my WHV on March 7, 2025, as it had much faster processing times compared to a nomination transfer. Then, just weeks later, the government changed the rules again—allowing 482 and 494 visa holders to continue working for their sponsor while awaiting nomination approval.

Had this rule been in place earlier, I never would have applied for a WHV. Now, I’m worse off than before—unable to work, stuck waiting for my WHV approval, and unable to apply for PR. Even if I withdraw my WHV application, I won’t qualify under the new policy because I have now exceeded my 180-day limit between sponsors.

Why This Matters
This is exactly why we need a case-by-case assessment process for people caught in these grey areas. I did everything right—I followed the legal pathways, sought professional immigration advice, and made decisions based on the rules at the time. But because of slow processing times and unexpected rule changes, I am now in a worse position than ever.

This isn’t just my story—it’s the story of thousands of people who have built their lives in Australia, worked in industries facing skill shortages, and contributed to their communities. And yet, we are repeatedly left in limbo by an unpredictable immigration system.

What We’re Fighting For

We need the government to:

✅ Implement case-by-case assessments for individuals unfairly caught in policy changes.
✅ Provide alternative PR pathways for long-term temporary residents who have contributed to Australia for years.
✅ Ensure clearer, fairer immigration policies that don’t leave people without work rights or legal stability due to bureaucratic delays.

I need your help to keep raising awareness. Please continue to sign and share this petition so we can push for a fairer, more compassionate immigration system.

Thank you for standing with me and so many others in this fight.
