A moving story of Laika's life the the Russian Space Race

If you are interested in a semi-fictionalized story of Laika's life and the forces - going all the way up to Russian Premier Nikita Khrushchev - that resulted in her being launched into space on Sputnik 2, I suggest finding a copy of "Laika," a graphic novel by Nick Abadzis, published by First Second books. It is a thoroughly adult treatment of the life and times of the little dog. You can read a review I have written of it here:

The image above shows Sergei Korolev, the chief designer of the Sputnik rockets, in real life and in Nick's graphic novel. His story is also quite extraordinary, as revealed in the book, so-much-so that I had to check the novel against Wikipedia to ascertain if it was true or not: It is true, and a striking reminder of the times he and Laika and all the other historical characters in the book lived through.
