A general statement from a South Dublin/Rathdown Council - dlrcoco.ie has said it will review its policy but makes NO suggestion of changing it.

They have in their own words said they ordered the destruction of an x l bully and a GSD X another breed.  Two dogs in total have been killed so far.

The link at the end is the full statement.

So what is a restricted breed?

Many people seem to be unaware that the term is "controlled breed" under the legislation which was later coined restricted and now the word dangerous breeds are used by media for click bait and by politicians who are ignorant and should NOT be in their position.

That being said - a controlled breed is ANY of the the 10 breeds, PLUS any dog that is Crossed with a controlled breed.  So for example, a lab x rotty is a "bandog" under the legislation and will be killed by Dublin County Pound if DLRcococ do NOT scrap their new and unusually cruel policy -  if the dog warden has collected the dog from the dlrcoco area.

The disturbing part of this - is the dog may not actually be from the area but strayed or escaped.  Which means other dogs are under threat in Dublin and perhaps stolen dogs from other areas of Ireland where the pound can not contact owner in 5 days.

It's not clear politicians understand that the DLRcoco is targeting a huge population of dogs under their new policy and if successful the staff at the Dublin Dog Shelter will be forced to murder dogs that a healthy, happy and not dangerous.  This will no doubt lead to good staff leaving and it is showing all the signs of Ashton pound version 2 on steriods......

We trusted our cllrs to do the right thing when over 100K people signed a petition to stop the killing of healthy dogs in Dublin. What has gone wrong so quickly?

According to Animal Law Ireland on LinkedIn there have been 6 groups in the working group Minister Humphries set up to recommend the xl bully ban ( or not ), have made statements that they did NOT agree with this ban.
