Time for Change - Addressing the Oamaru Hospital Crisis

The Issue

Together, the members of Waitaki Community Hospital Action Group [WCHAG] seek positive change at Oamaru Hospital based on our three key focus areas - Safer Staffing, Securing Services and Supporting Infrastructure.

The current Proposal has significant flaws which need to be addressed before the finalisation date of April 8th. Staff are currently being consulted regarding their input - Now we're asking the community to speak up and have their say!

  • The Waitaki Community deserves the right to ensure ongoing service provision at the Hospital now and well into the future.
  • The current staff deserve the right to voice openly what matters most to them moving forward with a new Model of Care.
  • Our elderly and young families deserve to know exactly how community-based and home-based care structures will affect them.

Oamaru Hospital has already seen staffing and service casualties due to managerial and structural change. If a new proposal is to go ahead - let's do it once and do it right - with community and staff consultation, transparency with funding entitlements and black-and-white reassurances.
