It’s time we take action - now.

Anecdote

On Friday I took my daughter and friends to a school open day.

I was in total shock that dozens of children had phones at the school in front of parents, citizens - even if it was their lunch break.

When I asked if they were allowed to have them, they said their instructions for the Open Day were on the phones. I was in shock and disbelief - as naturally I saw the phones were not being used just for the purpose described. What happened to a ‘run sheet’?

It’s not their fault. Adults give them phones and let them into an adult world - or distraction and entertainment with games. And even worse at school where they are supposed to be focussed and concentrating.

It’s so unhealthy and so unnatural. It’s rare for anyone to comment or notice this unnatural childhood behaviour any more because it’s been so normalised.

Our Australian education standards tell the grim story well.

We must improve for our next gen’s sake.
