Patrol officers were responding to a call in Carrollton, Texas, on Saturday when they made a heartbreaking discovery in a Home Depot parking lot.

A puppy was laying limp on the floor of a truck, as his owners were “busy inside switching price tags,” according to a Facebook post by the Carrollton Texas Police Department.

The reason was disturbing.

The chihuahua-mix suffered from a opiate overdose after getting into his owner's heroin, according to the post.

The owners have ten days to claim Lucky at the City of Carrollton Animal Adoption Center. 

Let's not let this happen. They should not be allowed to ever get this pup back. He deserves a family who will love him and take care of him.
