The number of those endorsing the call now stands at 392. It grew fairly quickly for a while but has markedly slowed down in recent days. This calls for immediate action. And this for several reasons.
The war in Gaza — now in its 430th day — has killed at least 44,708 Palestinians and wounded 106,050 others. It appears that the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza is under continuing Israeli attack, causing extensive damage to the hospital, injuring staff and patients and destroying critical infrastructure. The latest attack on a refugee camp on Saturday claimed at least 27 lives. A growing number of reports indicate alarming levels of food scarcity, lack of water and a 'strong likelihood" of approaching starvation.
The death toll in Lebanon stands at 4,047 and keeps rising despite the truce declared on 27 November.
In Syria, Israel, the United States and Turkey are exploiting the collapse of the Assad regime by launching a series of attacks to advance their strategic interests. In the meantime over 16 million people need humanitarian aid, with recent displacement of one million people, mostly women and children, from Aleppo, Hama, Homs and Idleb.
Pax Christi will soon write to Church leaders around the country, other Faith leaders and political leaders drawing their attention to this Call. We are asking for an urgent response. We need the letter to be supported by the highest possible number of signatories - at least 500 by this Friday. Please help us reach this target.
We ask you to alert people in your networks, inviting their endorsement and encouraging them to disseminate the Call wherever they can. A gentle reminder often helps.
We thank you for your invaluable support.
