The U.S. House of Representatives will be taking up H.R. 2997, FAA Reauthorization bill, on the House floor for passage of an extension. It is to our collective advantage to support the passage of amendments submitted by Representative Steve Lynch of MA as a part of that extension bill. Therefore, please ask your US Representative to please strongly support the following:
Amendment 048: Health Impacts of Air Traffic Noise and Pollution
To require the National Academies’ Health and Medicine Division to examine the public health impacts of air traffic noise and pollution and issue an Expert Consensus Report. (Rep. Lynch)
Amendment 041: Urge Noise Reduction Devices, Vortex Generators
Directs the FAA to work with airlines to retrofit aircraft with noise-reduction devices such as vortex generators. They are easy to install and inexpensive yet reduce noise up to 11dBA. (Rep. Lynch)
Amendments 044 and 045: Other Community Concerns Considered
#44 Requires the FAA to consider alternative departure procedures over noise-sensitive areas to address community concerns when proposing or changing a procedure, such as early turn modifications and thrust and speed management changes.
#45 requires consideration of flight paths and runway configurations that travel over water for airports located near coastal communities. Both amendments stress using communication between the FAA and communities. (Rep. Lynch)
