GOM, U D Department Notification No.TPB - 4316/1340/CR-97/03/UD-11 of 05th October 2016: - The citizens of Navi Mumbai were shocked to see this notification where the land use of the area has been changed from ‘No Development Zone’ to ‘Regional Park, including Golf Course and predominately Residential’. The notification and map is attached. From the map, it will be noted: -
a) Pocket ‘D’ is residential. It is in front of Vanashree, has mangroves and water body which is a habitat for birds.
b) Pocket ‘A’ is a water body with few mangroves which is the main habitat of flamingos, cranes and other species.
c) Pocket ‘C’ is a dense mangroves forest with notice boards stating it is a protected forest.
CIDCO claims that the High Tide Line (HTL) ends at the path between Pocket ‘C’ and ‘A’ where citizens normally have cleaning drives to clean the mangroves and water body. CIDCO has, therefore, designated Pocket ‘A’ as CRZ II and Pocket ‘C’ as CRZ 1. We can clearly see HTL coming upto NRI boundary and Pocket ‘A’ should be CRZ 1 where no activity can be done. Furthermore, the area of Pocket ‘A’ is only 20 Ha which is small for a golf course. CIDCO claims that golf course will also be extended to Pocket ‘B’ and the water body behind T. S. Chanakya will be developed!!
Hence It's important that citizens should protest against the plan and demand cancellation of the notification.
