Brexit has damaged the European Integration process we have been building in the past 60 years. A project that has brought us peace, solidarity, human rights and the freedom to live, love, work study in 28 countries. 

Let's not let nationalism, xenophobia and Populism destroy our future and the life of younger generations.

Let's write today to the EU leaders asking them to respond to our common challenges with real actions and not empty words .

Let's Wake Up Europe by mobilising civic society and sending a clear message to our leaders.

Dear Mr Tusk

In our drama-documentary The Great European Disaster Movie, we warned that Europe was sleep-walking towards disaster. 

We take no pleasure at all in pointing out that much of what we foretold in the film is now coming true.

The decision of the UK to leave the EU is not a scene from our film but a real world event.

Brexit represents a sad day for Britain and for the EU.

It is also a Wake Up! call to Europe.

Together with tens of thousands of citizens across the EU we are calling on you and the European Council to bring forward an action plan for the renewal of Europe.

Action to save Europe from itself. Action which responds to the clearly articulated needs and demands of European citizens.

Wake Up Europe! is a platform for a myriad of citizens initiatives and movements for the democratic renewal of Europe.

We ask you and your colleagues to listen to the voice of European citizens and to examine the proposals and strategies being put forward by these organisations.

We are citizens of Europe who are coming together to think, to talk and to act.

We ask for a constructive, open dialogue with you and your fellow leaders about the future course of Europe.

We are firmly convinced that the European Union is part of the solution, not part of the problem in addressing the challenges we face in Europe in the twenty-first century.

Equally, we believe that the European Union needs to change, and to change rapidly so that it can become not the EU of the history books but the EU that meets our needs and empowers us as the European citizens of today and the new Europeans of tomorrow.
