Thank you ever so much for voting against the councils plans, we reached our target of 1,001 votes by the end of the deadline.
So where are we heading now? Not all of the info is solely tramway related but it's important to report the whole peninsula development as the harbour station is part of the land.
After working with Weyforward and various businesses and groups in Weymouth, we had a 'follow up' meeting yesterday about the next steps. We discussed about the smug comments Councillor Jeff Cant was making about our opposition, stating that 'these plans will go ahead' even before the comments were closed on the councils planning application. It isn't going to be such a free road as the council is making it out to be, after a lot new information was provided at the meeting.
The next step is to get in contact with every restaurant and hotel on the sea front and discuss if they had any consultancy in the councils plans. This will help us as no businesses has been consulted, with the council stating they have.
There will be pop-up stands around Weymouth in the coming weeks to reach out to the public rather than staying on Facebook. Whilst this won't be railway orientated, I will certainly be giving it as an example to the public of what can help the deserted area.
This part isn't entirely confirmed yet, but will be happening in some shape or form: There will be a large public meeting to share their views, ideas and concerns. I suggested using the pavilion and have a 200+ guest event and my comments got some thought.
From the proposed public meeting, the core ideas, with a very high and important chance of the railway carriages being included, will be valued and work out all the costings. From there, do mind the timeline is now getting very wavy in whats probably happening, there will a meeting where the council will get stopped in their tracks by the large amount of opposition and evidence against their plans.
So, hopefully you are satisfied that after 3 years, we are finally setting off and moving on a roll! A little thanks to the council putting forward these awful proposals, as it has started this mass opposition movement which is bound to win. We are not a bunch of people protesting in front of bulldozers, we are opposing this plan legally and which the large heads of Weymouth by our side. Also, thanks for 500+ signatures lately, It's great to see my campaign still growing 1095 days later!
For regular updates, please follow the Facebook page. I will only post here on Change.org for large announcements. Thanks for keeping up and grasping a little bit of hope throughout the years, but, I'm pissed off that I've just thought of this, It's coming home. The Weymouth tramway is coming home.
