36 Months California: Raise the minimum age teens use social media from 13-16.

The issue

36 months is a social change movement to raise the minimum age of teenagers using social media from 13 to 16, or 36 months.

Excessive social media use is rewiring young brains within a critical window of psychological development, causing an epidemic of mental illness. It is linked to mental health issues, cyberbullying, anxiety, depression, self-harm and even suicide in teenagers.

13 year olds are not ready to navigate social media networks safely. These years are crucial in developing the self-confidence and self-worth that helps them grow into mentally healthy adults.

We support common-sense legislation that will give our children this reasonable space to develop and grow before they are exposed to a system that research and experience shows us can cause them mental harm.
