A new petition for the 2026 elections which are at risk of delay

Thank you to everyone who signed the Let Hampshire Vote petition earlier this year. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in our objective to stop this May’s local elections being postponed.  The government and leadership of Hampshire County Council promised those elections would be held in May 2026 after a year's delay.

It now looks like those elections may be at risk.  Democracy cannot wait!

The original petition has started to garner more support and a thank you to our new supporters.  We have decided to start a new petition, which is focussed on this new threat to our democracy.  The reason for this is the terms of reference for the petition have changed and it is only right to start afresh rather than presume the continued support from previous signatories.  So we would encourage all previous signatories to support this new petition, which can be found here.

Once again this petition is fully cross-party and non-partisan. It is about democratic accountability and not party politics. Some of the political parties and mayoral candidates have started their own petitions and we would welcome support from them and their supporters to fully capture the strength of feeling across our wonderful county.
