①老木となった桜はできるだけ天寿を全うさせてあげたい！

②枯木化し、伐採せざるを得なくなってしまったら、新たな桜の苗木を植え、「美しい中央線と桜と菜の花の風景」「平和のシンボル」を次世代に繋いでいきたい！

③そのための適切な剪定・保全を行なうことと、新たな桜の植樹に向け、住民との協議の場を設けることを「中野区」と「JR」に求めます！

「東中野駅西口の桜並木」－桜山通り線路沿いの斜面の桜並木は、戦災によって失われた桜山の桜を、住民の方々が国鉄に許可を得て、寄付を集め苗木を植え、復活させたものです。

その後70年以上、住民の心の拠り所として、「平和のシンボル」として、毎年花を咲かせ、「美しい中央線と桜と菜の花の風景」が保たれてきました。

近年、老木となり、枯木化した木は伐採せざるを得ませんでした。現在、桜並木はかなり寂しくなり、伐採後の切り株がいくつも放置されています。

しかし、「東中野駅西口の桜並木を守る会」では伐採後放置せず、適切な剪定・保全をして、今ある桜の天寿を全うさせる。そして、新たな桜の苗木を植え、未来に桜並木を繋いでいきたい、ということを訴え続けてきました。いま、「JR」「中野区」と協議し、毎年一回程度の剪定・除草業務・菜の花の種まきは行われていますが、桜並木の未来は保障されてはいません。

そこで、斜面の所有者である「JR」と管理者である「中野区」に、多くの思いを同じくする人々のいることを示し、住民・賛同者との協議の場を求める署名を考えました。

列車の安全運行は当然守られるべきものであり、「何が何でも切るな！」というような主張はしておりません。むしろ万全の安全対策と、周辺の住民環境への適切な対応を求めるものです。

ぜひ、「美しい中央線と桜と菜の花の風景」「平和のシンボル」を未来に、次世代の子ども達に繋いでいきましょう！

The cherry trees along the west exit of Higashi-Nakano Station - the Sakura-Yama Dori railroad tracks - were lost in the war and were restored by local residents who, with permission from the Japanese National Railways, collected donations and planted saplings.
For more than 70 years since then, the cherry trees have bloomed every year as a symbol of peace and as a spiritual center for the local residents, and creating the beautiful scenery of the Chuo Line, cherry blossoms, and rapeseed blossoms.
In recent years, the old and dead trees have had to be cut down. Today, the rows of cherry trees has become quite desolate, and a number of stumps have been left standing after the trees were cut down.
However, we the "Association to Protect Cherry Trees at the West Exit of Higashi-Nakano Station" believe that the remaining trees should be pruned and preserved appropriately to let them live out the rest of their natural lives. The group has discussed this with JR and Nakano Ward. Pruning, weeding, and sowing rapeseed seeds are done once a year, but the future of the rows of cherry trees is not guaranteed.
Therefore, we came up with the idea of making this a petition to JR, the owner of the slope, and Nakano Ward, the administrator, to show that there are many people who share our feelings, and to request a forum for discussion with the residents and supporters.
This campaign was started by volunteers of the "Association to Protect Cherry Trees at Higashi-Nakano Station West Exit".

Our requests:
Please allow the old cherry trees live out their natural lives to the extent possible.
If the trees die and have to be cut down, we would like Nakano Ward and JR to plant new saplings. That way, we can pass on the beautiful scenery of the Chuo Line, the cherry blossoms and rapeseed blossoms, as a symbol of peace to the next generation.
We ask that Nakano Ward and JR properly prune and preserve the trees for this purpose. We also ask them to set up a meeting with residents to discuss the planting of new cherry trees.
By signing this petition, you will help us convey to Nakano City and JR the thoughts of many people who care about the Higashi-Nakano West Exit cherry trees.
 
The safe operation of trains should be protected, of course, and we do not insist that no trees should ever be cut down. Rather, we are calling for full safety measures and appropriate responses to the environment of the residents living in the vicinity.
Let's preserve the beautiful scenery of the Chuo Line, cherry blossoms and rapeseed flowers as a symbol of peace for the future and for the children of the next generation!
