The City of Benicia’s newly released Public Review Draft Housing Element calls for more than 300 dwelling units in the Arsenal Historic District. If approved, this housing plan will destroy any hope of a Historic Park. Currently revised proposals for 138 units are under review for several parcels along Jefferson and Adams Streets, where they would obscure the definitive viewsheds among the magnificent landmark structures and their historic command of the Carquinez Straits.
On July 26, the City Council and Planning Commission will hold a study session on the Draft Housing Element. They need to hear from you! Ask them to stop planning for housing in the Arsenal Historic District and start making better plans for this precious place!
