Kia ora tree lovers!

Thank you so much for signing up to support Save Canal Road Native Trees.

Can you come and join us for an hour or two on Wednesday morning from 6 am.  United we will stand.

Today is day 62 of our community campaign to save the 100 year old stand of native trees on Canal Road. We are standing strong, and things could be about to come to a head.

We reached out to mana whenua of Tāmaki Makaurau asking for their help and at dawn this morning an Aukati - Rāhui was declared. Rihari Nahi of Ngāti Whātua Ki Kaipara placed the ‘korowai’ of protection over the trees. He says this still permits tree protectors to enter the land, but prevents people from destroying the trees.

That should be enough to protect the trees, but sadly it may not be. So we will persist with our community tree-sit, and with our call on the community to join us here in solidarity - especially over the coming days.

Can you come and join us for an hour or two on Wednesday?

We have reason to believe that, despite the Rāhui and the will of the community, the developers will again attempt to fell the trees soon.

We are calling for people to join the protest at the site over the coming days to help protect the trees. You don’t need to climb trees (though skilled climbers are welcome!) and you don’t need to enter the site, but it is really important to have people there to bear witness and to peacefully uphold the protection of these irreplaceable rākau.

So please come if you can, remember to maintain physical distance and wear a face mask if you do, and bring a friend.

It is with numbers that we will win.

Come and join us for an hour or two on Wednesday
