Thanks to your support, the Hermosa Beach City Council has officially moved the community pool initiative to the Parks & Recreation Commission!
This is a huge first step toward finally bringing a public pool to Hermosa Beach — something residents have dreamed of for decades. The fact that this conversation is now in motion is because of YOU — your signatures, your letters, your presence at the Council meeting, and your belief that Hermosa deserves a place where people of all ages and abilities can swim, train, heal, and play.
Nearly all of the seats in council chambers were full of pool supporters! Big thank you to the speakers from last night and last month who shared their experiences and advocated for a Hb swimming pool: Jeff Ogan, Bill Hallett, Andy Stabile, record setting swimming medalist Ash Anderson, and Hermosa Valley's Outstanding 8th Grader of the Year, Chloe Hirsch.
And, we especially want to thank Mayor Rob Saemann, who recommended the project be sent to Parks & Rec, along with council members Mike Detoy and Ray Jackson who added the necessary two supporting votes. This move opens the door for creative solutions, partnerships, and community input — and gives us a real shot at making this dream a reality.
Next up: We’ll be organizing to be prepared to support Parks & Rec with ideas, momentum, and a community-powered vision.
