2023年から2024年にかけて行った「芥川作曲賞選考委員に多様性を求める」署名活動にご賛同、ご支援いただき、改めて心より感謝申し上げます。

8月30日に開催された第36回芥川也寸志サントリー作曲賞選考演奏会を受け、サントリー芸術財団に新たな文書を送りました。以下、その要旨をご報告いたします。

第36回芥川也寸志サントリー作曲賞選考演奏会を聴き、同賞が「音楽の現在」をより幅広く映し出すためには、対象とする作品や評価のあり方をさらに広げる必要があるとの思いを強くしました。

これまでの提言を踏まえ、聴衆による鑑賞や作品としての完成度・美的価値を重視する「鑑賞性作品」と、新しい技法や思想、音楽の可能性を追求する「実験性作品」を、それぞれ異なる創作理念として評価する二部門制をあらためて提案しました。

現在の選考の枠組みから「こぼれ落ちるもの」を拾い上げ、多様な作曲美学がそれぞれの価値に即して評価されることを願っています。

これまで芥川作曲賞の時期に合わせて、同賞のあり方についてサントリー芸術財団への提言を続けてきましたが、今回をもって、この活動にはひとまず一区切りをつけることにいたしました。

署名という形で声を寄せてくださった皆さまのご支援があったからこそ、財団に問題提起を行い、提言を続けることができました。

To Everyone Who Supported This Petition,

I would once again like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported and endorsed the petition “Seeking Greater Diversity Among the Jury Members of the Akutagawa Composition Award,” which was conducted from 2023 to 2024.

Following the 36th Akutagawa Yasushi Suntory Award for Music Composition Selection Concert, held on August 30, I sent a new statement to the Suntory Foundation for the Arts. Below is a summary of that statement.

After attending the 36th Akutagawa Yasushi Suntory Award for Music Composition Selection Concert, I was once again convinced that, if the Award is to reflect a broader picture of “music today,” it needs to embrace a wider range of works and approaches to evaluation.

Building on my previous proposals, I once again proposed the establishment of two categories: “Appreciation-Oriented Works,” which place emphasis on the listening experience, artistic accomplishment, and aesthetic value of a work; and “Experimental Works,” which explore new techniques, ideas, and possibilities in music. Each category would recognize a different creative orientation on its own terms.

My hope is that such a system could give recognition to works that currently “fall through the cracks” of the selection process, allowing diverse compositional aesthetics to be evaluated according to their respective values.

Over the past several years, around the time of the Akutagawa Composition Award, I have continued to submit proposals to the Suntory Foundation for the Arts concerning the future direction of the Award. With this latest submission, I have decided to bring this effort to a close for the time being.

It was the support of all those who added their voices through this petition that enabled me to raise these issues with the Foundation and continue making these proposals.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude once again to everyone who has supported and endorsed this effort.
