Откуда берутся медведи на китайских желчедоильных фермах? Один из источников «живого материала» рождённые там же, в Китае, в неволе малыши. Другой – медвежата из России. Их (а также тигрят) везут контрабандой, партиями, живыми, уложенными в специально изготовленные ящики и чемоданы, минуя таможенные пункты. И потом начинается ад.
Непосредственно спасением медведей, попавших в застенки изуверских ферм, занимается Фонд «Животные Азии», и сегодняшний рассказ об этих людях.

Фонд «Животные Азии» - благотворительная организация в Гонконге, которая стремится положить конец жестокости к животным в Азии. Он основан в 1998г. Джилл Робинсон. Джилл родилась и выросла в Англии. В середине 1980-х годов переехала в Гонконг, где начала работать в Международном Фонде защиты животных, сосредоточив внимание на работе в Китае и Южной Корее. Она ввела понятие "благополучие животных через благосостояние людей" и в 1991г. основала в Гонконге первую программу анималотерапии в Азии Dr Dog.
В 1993 году Робинсон посетила ферму медвежьей желчи в Китае. Встреча с медведем в клетке изменила её жизнь. Узнав, что медвежью желчь можно заменить травами, она поклялась положить конец разведению медвежьей желчи. С тех пор животные Азии спасли более 530 медведей в Китае и Вьетнаме.
Профессор Питер Ли считает, что Робинсон "в одиночку заставила задуматься мир" о жестокой практике разведения медведей. В течение следующих семи лет, Робинсон вела переговоры с китайским правительством. В 2000 году департамент лесного хозяйства провинции Сычуань подписал с Китайской ассоциацией охраны дикой природы обязательство освободить 500 медведей с желчных ферм с наихудшими условиями содержания. Это был первый случай, когда представители китайского правительства пришли к официальному соглашению с организацией по защите животных. Чтобы разместить выпущенных медведей, Робинсон основала Фонд Animals Asia Foundation и Центр спасения медведей в Чэнду. Фонд с тех пор основал аналогичный центр во Вьетнаме, где также существуют сотни медвежьих ферм желчи.
Сейчас в команде Джилл более 300 увлеченных сотрудников. Она делит свое время между материковым Китаем, Вьетнамом и Гонконгом и часто путешествует по всему миру, чтобы выступить с докладами на конференциях и на мероприятиях по сбору средств. Она работает с ветеринарами, принимает участие в спасении медведей и консультирует по строительным проектам. Экспорт российского леса в Китай может быть остановлен до решения проблем, накопившихся в этой области, заявил глава Минприроды Дмитрий Кобылкин. По его словам, он уже предупредил об этом китайских коллег.
Министр природных ресурсов и экологии РФ Дмитрий Кобылкин предупредил о возможной остановке экспорта леса в Китай до наведения порядка в этой области, в частности, до решения проблемы восстановления лесов. Об этом, как сообщает корреспондент РБК, министр заявил на правительственном часе в Совете Федерации.
«Китай — это основной рынок, куда вывозится древесина. <...> Если мы в ближайшее время не наведем порядок, в том числе со стороны Китая, мы закроем экспорт древесины в Китай полностью», — заявил Кобылкин.
При этом он пояснил, что уже предупредил министра китайского правительства о возможности такой меры. «Я не говорю, что это нужно сделать, но, наверное, так придется поступить на какой-то период времени», — подчеркнул глава Минприроды. «Я китайским коллегам сказал — давайте построим 10-20 семеноводческих комплексов на территории России за ваши деньги. Думаю, однако, что данному заявлению мы обязаны отнюдь не озабоченностью Минприроды истощением природных ресурсов страны (это было бы крайне странным после стольких лет проводимой ведомством политики), дело, скорее, в известных политических ветрах. Однако, сам факт признания проблемы на высоком уровне, чрезвычайно важен. Запомним это, чтобы в дальнейшем не позволить им отступить!

It may turn out that China has even a bigger interest in Russian bears than greedy Russian hunters. But if there is demand – there’ll be supply. In response to the neighbor's request, poaching in the Russian Far East is blooming. The illegal hunting takes place even in winter, when the animals are most vulnerable.
Almost all the Brown bear bile comes from Russia.
In recent years, poaching has caused enormous damage to more than 160 species of wild fauna and flora of the Far East. The greatest damage was caused to the populations of the Amur tiger, the far Eastern leopard, the Moon bear, the musk deer, the far Eastern soft turtle.
The Far East of Russia is the most disadvantaged region of the country, where the illegal trade of the "Red book" plants and animals is flourishing.
Almost ninety percent of the regional hunters are considering the illegal production and sale of ginseng, bear bile, antlers and other species a good income. Customs officers and the environmental authorities are powerless against the pressure of the illegal trade.
This trade is mainly carried out by organized criminal groups with extensive corruption and international links.
The Russian Customs service sometimes detain smuggled goods. But this is only a small part of the total number of the exported animals.

Bears are bred on Chinese farms and smuggled from Russia. Little bear cubs are transported in batches alive, laid in specially made boxes and suitcases, bypassing customs points. And then the hell begins.
Chinese farmers lock bears in the tightest cages possible. They are so tight that bears can't move. Then the farmers pierce the bears’ abdominal cavity and the gall bladder, put a metal belt onto them and pump out the bile several times a day.... The pain of the animals cannot be described, that is why bears are constantly crying. They chew their limbs, they eat them away! They are never released, and food is given to them through a narrow metal door.
The wound remains open. It gets infected, and there are various complications that cause unbearable pain to animals. The usual phenomenon is broken teeth with which bears bite the bars of the cell, as well as the pain from the uncomfortable position of legs and even malignant tumors.
This can continue for 20 years until bear stops producing bile, and then it is slaughtered, sold for meat and fur, dissected for paws and bile. Jill Robinson is the founder of Animals Asia Foundation. Born and raised in England, Robinson was always interested in the welfare of animals. As a child she volunteered in veterinary offices during her school holidays. In the mid-1980s she moved to Hong Kong, where she began working for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, focusing on work in China and South Korea.
In 1993, Robinson visited a bear bile farm in China. According to Robinson, at the time approximately 10,000 Asiatic black bears were caged at farms similar to this one, in conditions many animal welfare groups consider horrific. At bear bile farms, bile is extracted from the bear's gallbladder for use in traditional Chinese medicines. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, only about 15,000–20,000 Asiatic black bears are alive in the wild in China, which would qualify them for the highest protection described by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Chinese authorities estimate that over 50,000 of the bears live in the wild, which would eliminate the necessity for higher protection.
Professor Peter Li believes that Robinson "single-handedly alerted the world" to the cruel practice of bear farming. For the next seven years, Robinson researched the way bile was used and negotiated with the Chinese government. In 2000, the Sichuan Forestry Department signed a pledge with the China Wildlife Conservation Association to release 500 bears from the bile farms with the worst conditions. This marked the first time an agency of the Chinese government had come to an official agreement with an animal welfare organization. To house the released bears, Robinson founded Animals Asia Foundation and established a bear rescue center in Chengdu. The foundation has since established a similar sanctuary in Vietnam, where there are also hundreds of bear bile farms.
Robinson has also been a proponent of the Doctor Dog program, which rescues stray dogs in Asia and trains them to participate in Animal-assisted therapy.

A STRANGE STATEMENT of the RUSSIAN NATURAL RESOURCES MINISTRY: the Minister has threatened to halt the export of timber to China.
The export of Russian timber to China can be stopped before solving the problems that have accumulated in this area, especially the problem of forest restoration.
