The reason for this update was a letter from the Culture ministry of Russia, which was published in Sofya Belyaeva’s update https://www.change.org/p/4261744/u/23254337?utm_medium=email&utm_source=petition_update&utm_campaign=421997&sfmc_tk=FnNZ8FBC4P65YhjLsplHz18jXFy2lg%2b669cnipyKaLal3aRXan4sMgny6KvwG9tW&j=421997&sfmc_sub=158978074&l=32_HTML&u=65355426&mid=7259882&jb=39 (“Prohibit Capture and Captivity of Dolphins, Killer Whales, Whales and other marine mammals”).
But first Big News! We’ve received an answer from the Sverdlovsk region about cancellation of competitions in beaver catching in traps! However, let’s wait for the things to come. The decision was made by the Revda hunting farm. The "competition" was previously scheduled for 1-14 October 2018. So, we’ll see.
Coming back to the Culture ministry letter, I’d like to quote it for you and supply each of the quotes with real facts.
Quote 1:"the Russian Ministry of culture fully shares the citizens' concerns about the need to respect humane treatment of animals and prevent them from being abused."
Oh, those are beautiful words!
Quote 2:"Today, the Russian circus is difficult to imagine without animals and trainers."
Well, go ahead!
Quote 3: "Training refers to the genres of circus art, which consists in the ability to establish a trustful contact with animals without doing them harm."
Sorry, and what about this? https://www.facebook.com/vita.animal.rights.center.russia/videos/2007802225899533/UzpfSTc4NDU5MTUzODM2ODE0Njo5NzQ0MzE4NTI3MTc0NDY/ (copy and paste the link into the search line).
Or this? https://www.facebook.com/vita.animal.rights.center.russia/videos/1995961247083631/ (copy and paste the link into the search line).
Quote 4: Trainers “do not use animals caught in their natural habitat. They work only with animals, which were born in captivity not earlier than in the second generation”.
And what about this: "A trainer takes a baby from its mother. In the wild, the tiger cub is taken from his mother together with her life. A live tigress will not give her baby to anyone, so the mother is killed. Adult animals will never obey the trainer. Therefore, the trainer "works" only with stolen cubs. If the cub is taken away from the lioness or tigress born in captivity, then the mother had been previously deprived of freedom…the trainer is not a rescuer, but a killer of the tiger cub's mother, a lion cub and the culprit of the orphan's share of the prisoner, whose will is raped and suppressed with physical methods - beatings and hunger" https://vk.com/club_vita?w=wall-3349701_44524
And look at this "artist", he’s just be taken from wildlife! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKM0MsjruiI
Quote 5: "The use of killer whales, dolphins, Beluga whales, etc.is not accepted. Moreover, for example, the largest circus management and the entire staff of the Russian state circus company are categorically against the marine mammals involvement in the programs."
"Not accepted" and "not against" are just words! The situation would clear up if you said “forbidden" because everything that is not forbidden in this country, is allowed.
Quote 6: "The history of the circus, the development of circus art, especially the traditions of the Russian circus, are inseparable from the use of animals in circus performances. The Russian state circus company supports this tradition." All "on the basis of humane methods", of course!

Humane methods of training do not exist in principle https://zelenyislon.livejournal.com/246230.html
And here is what Laima Vaikule (a pop star) says: "I’ll never forget my visit to the circus, where I saw some dogs being trained. It was in Tashkent. They were all terribly thin …And suddenly one dog got her leg stuck between the arena and something there... You had to see how it was running on this ring as it was spinning, what bulging eyes, as if it was afraid of its trainer! Then I was told that they take them (the dogs) and throw against the wall. I'm not talking about what one doctor said. One elephant trainer somehow wounded an elephant’s uterus ... you see a trained elephant, and you should know that behind the scene it is chained to a cage, the lion sits in a cage, rushing or sleeping with his eyes open. It's scary!” http://www.vita.org.ru/new/2007/nov/20.htm
"Training of elephants is a system of a stick with a fringe and a hook under it. It can be clearly seen in the performances. It is possible that at the rehearsals they use a stun gun. The principle of taming is a painful stimulation of the movement the trainer needs" http://www.vita.org.ru/new/2007/nov/20.htm
Our circus performers practise a saying: "Want an elephant to stand on one leg, tear off his other three!" When you are in the circus clapping tricks that these seemingly clumsy animals perform, remember that this is the result of pain and suffering. The main tool of influence on elephants is a stick with a sharp hook on the end. It's called stack. By the way, stack has already been banned in many circuses around the world, but we are not even talking about it in Russia. A stack is usually beautifully decorated so that the audience does not notice anything. And it helps the trainer get the needed movement fast. It seems as if he (trainer) is just pointing the elephant’s direction – but in fact it inflicts painful blows, especially on the most sensitive parts of elephants’ bodies - ears https://zelenyislon.livejournal.com/246230.html
Quote 7: "All the artists involved in the taming of animals undergo long term training from the masters, featuring an impeccable attitude to his players (animals)".
Well, but if they (animals) do not obey – don’t blame… https://ru.sputniknews-uz.com/world/20180729/8994307/Dressirovschik-Askold-Zapashnyy-vystrelil-v-svoego-tigra-vo-vremya-vystupleniya.html
Do you know what happens to animals that attack trainers? They most likely will be killed and may even be eaten https://www.m24.ru/articles/zhivotnye/18012017/127566 (the second video 1.56 min)
Quote 8: "animal Welfare is carried out strictly in accordance with veterinary and sanitary standards, and full nutrition is provided according to the established diets. Trainers make every effort to create the most comfortable content and use of animals in the circus. There are cases of true affection animal to human".
Well, if a broken will, a depressed psyche and the habit of begging food is considered to be an affection, then Yes, of course. And still they rebel https://news.mail.ru/incident/34567846/?frommail=1
"The trainer castrates a lion cub or a tiger cub in adolescence, so that it won’t be dangerous, that the tiger does not remember that he is a tiger, so that the lion does not remember that he is a lion. They rip monkeys’ fangs so that they do not bite! Rebellious tigers or lions are driven into a small cages and beaten by circus “brothers” through the bars of the cage with hooks, etc. Have you ever paid attention to how ears and tails of tigers and lions in the arena look like? Their ears are pinned, their tail is preloaded. The behavior of the unfortunate "kings of animals" resembles the behavior of clockwork dummies. Fear from childhood dictates the behavior of animals in the circus: "Do not perform the trick? – Won’t get food! Do not perform the trick again? – Will be beaten to death!" Training of a new "artist" is a little different from a pedophile work https://vk.com/club_vita?w=wall-3349701_44524
They are kept in terrible conditions. Not having the strength to withstand this, many animals flee and get into trouble, they die. Simba the elephant from a travel circus escaped from her tormentors. Outside the city of Kostroma it got stuck in the swamp and froze to death http://www.vita.org.ru/new/2007/nov/20.htm
"Tiny cells, unsanitary conditions, overcrowding of animals, the proximity of different species of animals, sometimes antagonist ones, constant moans and cries of creatures result in constant stress. Animals-slaves become mentally ill. This is reflected in monotonous movements: shaking head, shaking body from side to side, running in a circle; high mortality" http://www.vita.org.ru/new/2007/nov/20.htm
Quote 9: "...after completing their career animals are kept in a special nursery in the suburbs, where they achieve proper care and feeding, which greatly prolongs their life in comparison with the natural life in nature".
However, there is much evidence that these animals are sent to contact and travel zoos, rent for photo shoots where they die, being thanked this way for their life-long work for people. Or they are sold away to a travelling circus that is worse than the worst of hell – no food, no treat, Animals there have almost no food, no treat, they are not given even water. They die of hunger, diseases, abuse, freezing to death. Often bankrupt owners just throw them locked up. https://zelenyislon.livejournal.com/246230.html
Quote 10:"Urban residents and, above all, children can see the diversity of the animal world and the beauty of animals in the dynamics only in the circus."
The Ministry of culture knows everything. And no wonder. The quoted letter is completely based on the text of the amendments made to the draft Federal law "on responsible treatment of animals" by the Russian state circus company! http://www.circus.ru/press-service/news/10891 / The Concerned Agency determines the position of the government structure, and at the same time imposes moral guidelines on the society!
"If animals disappear from the circus, it will severely affect the income of the circus", looks says Mr Shevchenko (a trainer) https://www.m24.ru/articles/zhivotnye/18012017/127566?utm_source=CopyBuf But why do they listen to only a financially interested group? Feel sorry for the trainers who will be unemployed? But lots of people lose their jobs every day. Doctors, for example. According to the most modest data, hundreds of thousands of them have been fired since the health care reform began.
The use of wild animals in circuses is prohibited in many countries. In Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, as well as several German cities they cannot use wild animals in circuses any more. In Bolivia, Greece, Denmark circus performances with both wild and domestic animals are prohibited.
Circuses are dangerous for people: "Close corrals, poor maintenance, ill-treatment are the cause of sudden attacks, aggressiveness of animals. Since 1990, more than 50 people have been killed by elephants in captivity. In 1994, a circus elephant killed its trainer and wounded 12 others in Honolulu. He was shot by the police on the spot. In the same year in Florida, the police officer killed Janet the elephant. The animal demolished the barriers of the circus arena and rushed away, dragging a trailer full of children. At the time, the officer said, "I think these elephants are trying to explain to us that zoos and circuses are not what God intended for them. But we're not listening" http://www.vita.org.ru/new/2007/nov/20.htm
Circuses are dangerous for animals: "on winter tour (2006) of the Russian state circus company in Yekaterinburg one of the elephants died https://newdaynews.ru/ekb/54564.html , in March 2006, an elephant died in the Nizhny Tagil circus. Last autumn, an elephant died in Avtovo, Leningrad region. In December 2004 in Murom starvation and cold killed a camel, a tiger, a wolf, a lynx and a Panther. In October 2003. in the city of Bolokhovo (Tula region) the same fate befell animals from another moving circus. When the circus became poor, "caring" owners ate ponies and pigs, the rest of the animals were left to die in the main street of the city. In 2002, a runaway elephant from a cross-country zoo died of hypothermia near Kostroma ... on average, elephants in zoos live only up to fifteen years, which is half the life of animals working on the felling in Asia, and a quarter of what their brethren live in the wild. Since the territory inhabited by elephants in wildlife is huge, none of the zoo is able to provide anything comparable in scale.
In captivity, animals of different species act on the arena together (for example, Asian and African elephants), which leads to conflicts. Their behavior in herds differs. In addition, they are kept chained 18-20 hours a day. Animals maim each other https://lenta.ru/news/2018/07/09/slonazamuchili/
Animals are crippled by ill-conceived tricks. Watch these videos. What do you need to do to make the elephant climb high on the fragile pedestal? How could think of a trick to put a large strong animal in danger of falling? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i8yWhKfYt0

"...it is necessary to distinguish circus art (circus of professionals) from circus farce (circus of non-professionals), which takes place in today's reality in connection with private enterprise and the lack of any restrictions on the part of the state in this sphere of activity, " writes the Ministry of culture, or rather, the Russian state circus company. Hey, gentlemen, we only see the FARCE!
