Michael Jackson’s Bad World Tour began in September 1987 and ended in January 1989. While fans have seen some concerts from the first leg in 1987, only short snippets of high-quality U-Matic tape or film footage from the second and third legs of the tour have surfaced. More than three decades later, the world is still waiting for a proper HD release of the Bad Tour 1988/89 — a tour that broke world records.

We, the fans of Michael Jackson, believe it is time for such a release to finally happen. Not only for our enjoyment, but also for the legacy of the King of Pop. The Bad Tour showed Michael Jackson at his peak, and the world deserves to see it.

Members of the film crew have revealed that several shows were shot on film. These include at least two shows from London, Wembley, as well as Paris, Lausanne, Liverpool, and Minneapolis. Los Angeles, January 27, 1989, is known to exist at least on U-Matic tape in very good condition, if not on film as well.

It was also revealed that, in 1988, members of the crew fully edited and color-graded a complete show, using 16mm and 35mm film, from one of the London, Wembley performances.

It is known that not all shows were recorded with multitrack audio. However, fans would not mind an HD release with a soundboard or front-of-house audio mix. In addition to an HD release, a standalone live CD from another show could also be released to showcase the magic of the Bad Tour in HD audio. Members of the film crew have also revealed that several shows were multitracked on a sound truck. Mentioned examples include Wembley July 15 and 16, New York, Kansas, and Los Angeles 1989.
