The Post Office scandal is one of the worst miscarriages of justice in British history. It involved the wrongful prosecution of hundreds of sub-postmasters and mistresses for alleged theft and fraud, based on faulty information generated by the Post Office's accounting software called Horizon, which was developed by Fujitsu.
In January 2024, the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office ignited public fury over the scandal, and over 170 petitions were started on Change.org in the UK, with former postmaster Chris Head's long-running petition rapidly growing to over 400,000 signatures. Another petition, calling for a knighthood for key campaigner Alan Bates, has reached over 100,000 signatures.
