Across Australia, communities are fighting to protect one of our most essential public assets: pools.
From hydrotherapy pools that support people with disabilities, to outdoor pools that keep rural towns alive through scorching summers, to aquatic centres that offer swimming lessons, health benefits, and social connection, pools are not a luxury. They are a lifeline.
Yet from the outback to the suburbs, local pools are under threat. Councils are closing facilities, slashing hours, and denying access to those who need it most. Families are being left without safe spaces to teach their children to swim. Elderly residents are losing vital rehabilitation options. People with mobility challenges are being shut out of therapy pools and ocean baths. And regional communities are watching their last shared spaces shut their gates for good.
But Australians are speaking up — and fighting back.
These petitions are being started by local residents, disability advocates, parents, swimmers, and everyday Aussies who know firsthand that pools matter. From Camden to Kogarah, Moe to Minninup, Bendigo to the Bellarine, these campaigns are calling on councils and governments to fund, protect, and expand pools across the country — so that no one is left behind.
