Several petitions have been launched on Change.org, calling for local elections to proceed in May as scheduled. At least 14 of the 21 county councils scheduled for elections in May are expected to request a postponement from ministers to explore options set out in a major redesign of local government announced in December. Petition signers have argued that local democracy is at threat if their local elections are postponed.
