Every year across Australia numerous families that want to permanently call this country their home are denied visas simply because one of their family members lives with a disability or a health issue. The discriminatory migration health rules assess migrants on the basis of their potential “costs” in terms of the community care service they may use.
Karandeep fought a long, unnecessary battle to keep his mildly autistic son in Australia two years ago. He lost his case and has been living alone in Adelaide serving as a nurse in an aged care centre throughout the pandemic. He’s calling on the government to change the discriminatory migration rules that treat people with disabilities or health issues unfairly, so he can reunite with his family.
Families across Australia support this call for a more humane migration policy that treats migrants with the respect and dignity they deserve. Sign his petition below to join the movement for a fairer, more inclusive Australia.
