About the movement

It's time for local councils across Australia to declare a climate emergency. Tens of thousands of people are already calling on the Prime Minister to declare a climate emergency, but we know change needs to happen at every level of government. So we're inviting people across Australia to start petitions asking their local councils to declare a climate emergency.
We know that the majority of Australians are concerned about the climate crisis. More than 60 per cent of Australians agree with the sentiment that "global warming is a serious and pressing problem."
The UK became the first country in the world to declare a national climate emergency in May 2019. Here in Australia, it was Darebin Council in Melbourne who became the first council in the world to recognise the climate emergency in December 2016.
