Not a day goes by without seeing on the news that a young girl has dropped out of school due unplanned pregnancy, or even worse, has been affected by a sexually transmitted disease.
A report by the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) 2022 shows that nearly half of Kenyan teenagers aged 15-17 years do not know how to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS infection. In 2020, the government recorded a total of 151, 000 teenage pregnancy cases in just 6 months.
This worrying trend can be attributed to inadequate or lack of comprehensive sex and sexuality education in the school curriculum meaning that we are denying the young generation access to essential information about their bodies and sexual health.
We owe the young generation the best possible knowledge and information about sexuality and sexual behavior so that they can make smart, empowered choices.
Sign the petitions and help save our children by urging the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to include comprehensive sex education in school curriculum.
