Thousands of Australians are calling on the AFL and other major sporting codes to introduce a dedicated mental health awareness round. Across multiple petitions, fans and community members are asking the league to use its platform to normalise conversations about mental health, particularly among men, for whom suicide remains the leading cause of death between the ages of 15 and 44. These campaigns share one ask: give mental health the same recognition the AFL gives its Indigenous rounds.
