A National Campaign to Stop Bullying

In Nigeria, bullying behaviour in school has become a national disaster with increasing cases of violence against children - torture, kidnapping, shooting, sexual harassment, rape and corporal punishment. The school system has become a nightmare for children, infringing on the child’s right to safety, privacy, freedom and human dignity.

 

Sadly, this practice is spreading even into the workplace and other communities and affecting the psychological well-being of all Nigerians.

 

With the deaths of Sylvester and Keren-Happuch, we have seen the consequences of our inactions. The children - the bullied, the bystanders and even the bullies, are caught in the web of wickedness.

 

It is time to end this by speaking truth to power through our collective voices and ensuring our elected representatives act swiftly and address this menace.
