On Saturday, March 15th from 2pm-3pm, Dr Ulrich Pilster will be on the University of Essex campus to give a presentation about internships and career paths available at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
NATO was established for mutual defence during the Cold War and should have been disbanded when the Soviet Union ended. It has been conducting a war in Afghanistan for nearly 10 years resulting in 100,000 innocent civilian deaths and the creation of 3 million refugees. NATO accounts for 70% of global military expenditure (which stands at over £1,072,600,000,000 equivalent to £150 per person per year for every person).
We do not believe that a responsible University should be hosting such an event to promote an essentially obsolete and purely Military Organisation, that's only purpose is to justify destructive wars, that are orchestrated for the benefit of Western Elites, against the wishes of the population of its member states.
We demand that the University cancels the event and that it no longer pursues ties with militaristic organisations.
