Everything Everywhere (EE): Stop sending mass SMS text messages with no opt-out details

The Issue

People all over the UK are sick and tired of receiving SMS marketing messages from Everything Everywhere. Replying to their SMS messages, who's sender name is "-EE-", with the word "STOP", "CANCEL", "UNSUBSCRIBE", "QUIT" or other variants simply does not work.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is the independent regulatory office that deals with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (PECR) Regulations 2003 law in the UK.

Regulations 22 and 23 of PECR state that "you cannot transmit, or instigate the transmission of, any marketing by electronic mail (whether solicited or unsolicited) to any subscriber (whether corporate or individual) where:" ... "you have not provided a valid address to which the recipient can send an opt-out request.".

This petition has been created to stop EE sending mass SMS text messages with no details on how to opt-out and implement the industry standard system that allows receipts to opt-out simply by replying with the word "STOP".

The full guide published by the ICO for organisations implementing regulations 22 and 23 of PECR can be found here.
