The government's final draft of the National Curriculum inclusion statement has removed "gender identity" from a list of equalities duties that teachers must obey. This is not only illegal, but also connected to a broader environment of cissexism--a dominant viewpoint which ignores and discriminates the needs of trans* people. It may have a devastating effect on the lives of trans* children.

However, we still demand a full explanation as to how this error had occurred. How did they manage to completely ignore a whole group of people, and why did nobody catch it?

We also demand a full explanation as to why it was removed in the first place, including but not limited to full disclosure of any meetings with third parties, minutes of meetings where it was decided to remove "gender identity" from the inclusion statement and any correspondence discussing the matter. It is important to understand how the Department for Education made the decision to contravene the Equalities Act to stop this happening again.
