York University, specifically Keele campus, has been the target for many crimes for many years. These crimes include robberies, and sexual assaults primarily. However, most recently, on March 6th 2014, two students were shot in the student centre on York Blvd and were both injured.

It is no secret that students at York have felt that the school needs to increase its security measures, but for some reason there doesn't seem to be a huge change being made by the school. This is an issue that has needed to be addressed for a very long time.

The University of Toronto campuses have on-campus police, so if UofT can have it, York should too. York is right next to one of the most well known high risk areas in the city and after all the negative events that have happened at York, our security is mediocre at best, especially when we consider the size of the campus as well.

The goal here is to get enough signatures to eventually present this to President Shoukri, and York security team, in order for the school to hire some on campus police.

I believe that with on-campus police, York University will be much more protected against crimes and will be much more prepared to handle security threats and crimes on campus also, which is why I have started this petition. I have also started this petition because the students at York University deserve better. We as students deserve to feel safe at school, and we deserve to learn in a safe environment.
